So many of you slide into my DM’s, the comment section, or onto your own posts talking about a time when another parent in the cloth diapering space belittled you because of your experience.

That is not okay.

I know that I’ve been that parent, that group admin, that blogger, who has belittled anothers experience because it didn’t make sense to me. I acknowledge that time in my life, and I work towards correcting the future of cloth diapering.

Not everything is going to make sense because the wide array of possibilities is greater than we can ever know. Sometimes we will be perplexed that ABC detergent worked for someone in XYZ conditions. And that’s okay. It’s not my job to decide the validity of their experience, but just to accept it.

As cloth diaper creators, bloggers, admins, and just parents, we can create spaces that allow for the sharing of experiences and accept their validity. In doing so, we aren’t creating just one monologue of the cloth diaper experience, but instead welcoming an array of experiences and returning the power to parents around the world to confidently cloth diaper their way.

This is not a popular opinion. We live in a world that thrives on rules, guidelines, and the one way for success. The definition of success is unique to each individual and will be found in an infinite number of ways that we cannot control, and should not control.
