Fit takes practice

Instagram Post

I’ve been going through old pictures to digitize for the Instagram feed and I found these of my babies. The baby in green is my son, and the baby in purple is my second child, my daughter.

Do you notice the difference in the fit of the diaper?
Yes! The purple is much trimmer fit and it’s less about the actual diaper itself but the practice and experience of 20 months of diapering that influences that.

If you’re diapers feel bulky and leaky, and clunky, keep practicing.
Here’s a few of my favourite fit tips for a trimmer fitting diaper:
🧚‍♀️ Use the right size insert, prefold or flat. Swapping microfibre inserts for cotton prefolds in my pocket diapers gave a much better fit on small babies than that long and wide microfibre. But even medium size inserts, or flats would do the trick.
🧚‍♀️ Make sure you get those leg elastics in the crease of the leg just like underwear. If you’re on the right rise setting, and you still have gaps, pull on the edge of the waist band to create a wing or bunny ear and tighten it along the leg crease.
🧚‍♀️ Start the diaper higher up. For most diapers (exceptions apply), if you start by placing the back elastic at the belly button, itll give a snugger fit to the body of the diaper and not have this saggy jean look. This changes with diapers and age, but starting higher up can help.
🧚‍♀️Adjust that rise setting! Not all diapers need it to be pushed up, but if it’s buckling around the thighs after an elastic tug, then push it up or down and get it to crease not buckle.

Some of these tricks don’t apply to all diapers, but some of them will. What are some of your favourite fit tips to share with others?
