Simply Mom Bailey | Cloth Diaper Podcast

As a cloth diaper blogger, I meet people from all walks of life and I’m well versed in the options available. But sometimes you need to learn to walk the talk – I was all talk but I didn’t really know the challenge that would come. I’ve participated in the Flats Challenge for three years and I’ve learnt the basics of laundry and that this isn’t an easy of ask of anyone. But I know that there are families out there who do this to survive, and to them I will always be in admiration of their strength.  Check out my personal blog for the past three years of participation.

To raise awareness among friends. A lot of personal friends have questioned cloth diapering and especially now- they can’t buy disposables in stores in USA anymore with this panic buying business. I’ve been sharing my extras with folks and teaching how easy it is.

I have been doing the challenge since I started cloth diapering in 2014 and I was handwashing full time then. I co tinued with the challenge when I got my washer and dryer in 2018 to keep myself in check and to spread awareness that cloth is a wonderful option whether by choice or by emergency even without a proper washer/dryer. It can be done!

I cloth diapered with flats and handwashing for a month-long trip to Uganda, and by participating and sharing, I want to remind myself that it’s doable and publicize it to help other people realize they can do it too.

I am participating in the Flats & Handwashing Challenge, because I want to show friends and family that cloth diapering can be as simple or as difficult as you make it. What better way to show the simple side by participating in the challenge?

Normalize Cloth

I’m participating to raise awareness for cloth diapers as a feasible solution for many who struggle to afford diapers. I have been there myself and was admittedly ignorant of the option to even cloth diaper. I know there are others who view cloth diapers the same way I did: as a lost art. I’d hate to see anyone struggle for years like I did when cloth diapers offer an affordable relief.

I am participating in the 2020 Flats & Handwashing challenge, because as a SAHM (single-income family) with 2 babies in diapers, living in an apartment with no washer or dryer of our own, I needed to find a way to adapt. Cloth diapering has tremendously helped us, financially, but not so much when we have to haul our dirty diapers to the community launder or a laundromat. Handwashing has been THE best solution for my family, so I’m excited to challenge myself to do it for a week straight!

To broaden my knowledge on cloth nappies/different methods of cloth nappying and to learn how to hand wash so that I am better equipped to help those who reach out to me for help and advice.

I want to put myself in the shoes of other people in the community. This will be a good way of seeing how someone who is not as privileged as me would cloth diaper. It is also going to give me a change to be better at working with the flats and covers I have in my stash.

I’ve enjoyed the challenge in the past. It always renews my love for wool covers. I’ve struggled with keeping my third baby in cloth because of his medical needs, so I look forward to the challenge to do so for that week.

Brandi

I recently have had terrible luck with washers, so I’m doing this to show that ANYBODY can cloth diaper ANYWHERE for any reason.

Megan W

I’m participating just for the experience. I’ve done it the last three years and I want to keep it up.

I like to cloth diaper in the most ecological and economical way possible. It’s my way of rejecting consumerism. It empowers me and makes me feel like a super mom and a good citizen of the world. It will be my second year with my two children. Last year I liked it so much that I just kept on hand washing all summer!

I am participating this year is because I want to challenge myself, I already use cloth and mostly hand wash. I did the challenge 6 years ago when my oldest was a baby and I remember having an awesome time with it! I’m really excited 😊

I participated last year with one baby and this year it will be with a toddler and a newborn! I want to challenge myself and show others this is doable and viable for many families struggling with diaper need or access to laundry.

In light of the Covid-19 pandemic, I want to shed some light on how easy it can be to cloth diaper in a pinch, or full time if preferred disposables are unavailable.

I like to challenge myself(this will be the first year the challenge isn’t during my fast for Ramadan!), and to show others it isn’t as hard as it appears!

I’m looking to save more resources for my other family members. We have 5 adults and 3 children in our household.

I am participating because I’ve been excited to do it since I started cloth diapering and found out about it. I think it will be a nice break from all my other systems I use most of the time.

Because poverty in my town is a real thing, I want to experience what moms deal with when they have no access to a washer and dryer. I am cheap cloth diaper-er and already use flats but I know I have a luxury with my own washer and dryer.

    About the Cloth Diaper Podcast

The Cloth Diaper Podcast is a somewhat regular podcast sharing stories from cloth diaper parents, brands and retailers from around the world.

The Cloth Diaper Podcast is not affiliated with any school of thought of diaper laundry but instead focus on the power of peer-to-peer story telling to empower you to make your own cloth diaper journey.
