What is an AIO Diaper?

All In One Cloth Diaper is a convienetly packed diaper – everything you need in one bundle. For most us, this means the absorbency is sewn to an exterior waterproof shell.

This is not an agreed upon definition. Many different cloth dipaer brands craft and create different styles of AIO diapers. There are those with sewn in absorbency and those with snap in absorbency. This the list of AIO diapers with snap in absorbency. Why? Because I want you to be prepared before you buy.

I love AIO Cloth Diapers – they were an essential part of my stash becuase of their ease-of-use and simple design. But they also, really frustated me because they were sometimes difficult to assemble and tedious to wash. Like everything – pros & con’s.

I bought some of these diapers with the assumption that they were an AIO but when I discovered I had to mix and match pieces, I grew increasingly frustated. My inserts always detach in the wash. That means I have to rummage in my laundy basket for the matching insert. This eats time, and didn’t always work for my life.

You might consider avoiding AIO diapers like this if you want a grab and go style that doesn’t require matching of pieces.

Introducing the Snap In One (SIO) Cloth Diaper

Snap In One diaper is a term used around the world to describe cloth diapers that have an exterior shell with snap in absorbency. You might think of this as an All In Two, but a better name because it more accurately describes the diaper – it’s a cover with snap in inserts. Other popular AI2 diapers that would be similar to this include Elskbar Reusables, Buttons Diapers, GroVia Hybrid, and Bebeboo Choice system.

Examples of SIO Diapers

(Specifically all in one diapers that are mistakenly sold for something else, and therefore might be a disappointment when you receive them)

AKA this blogger wishes that brands would stop calling these diapers all in one diapers, and just refer to them as a snap in one, all in two, or hybrid style. These AIO cloth diapers can come together and be customized. That is not a simple sewn together cloth diaper.

Smart Bottoms Dream Diaper AIO

The dream diaper is an amazing innovation. It features high quality cotton products, a pocket, snap in inserts, and a trim cut. This diaper has pieces that go together, and therefore I want to reclassify it. I do find the Dream Diaper does stay together in my washing machine

GroVia O.N.E. Diaper

This is a highly sought after diaper for it’s absorbency and customizable design. It features snap-in inserts and a hook & loop strip to give you whatever you need in a diaper. But it’s not a real AIO diaper. You still need to do the work.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do brands call them aio?

There’s no industry standards and cloth diaper brands can call a diaper whatever they want to get the right keyword ranking.

Be careful when shopping on sites like AliExpress or Etsy because keyword stuffing happens a lot more and you get pockets sold as covers.

Terminology is important so that the user gets the right product.

Why does this bother you so much

Because I think that there should be more consistency in product terminology so that new parents and established cloth diaper users know what they are getting.

As a cloth diaper parent, I can remembering order the Best Bottom AIO and being excited… only to open the package to find a snap in insert. This wasn’t a true AIO one diaper, if I wanted to find inserts on laundry day, I would have choosen an all in two system.

Misnaming is important to ensure that customers get what they want and there’s a standard across products.
