Ege creates and sews diapers in Estonia as Weekings Diapers – and it sounds like Vikings, and Weekings is a tiny king, and a word play. She’s been a cloth diapering parent for a few years.

She didn’t want to use PUL, but wasn’t convinced with wool either. So it took some time to discover a product that would meet her needs.

Ege sews a fitted diaper with inserts and a variety of other products like flats.  You can check out her shop here.

What does cloth diapering in Estonia look like?

There’s a few others making cloth diapers for years, but it’s more of a mainstream pocket style with PUL. There’s a few smaller businesses making wool covers. And now I’m making the inserts and fitted diaper.

Why fitted diapers?

I wanted to use diapers with the minimal amount of plastics – it can be really hard to get wool diapers to get clean if they get poop on them, so she choose a fitted diaper as the under product.

The Weekings diaper doesn’t have any leg or back elastics. The only snaps we use is the snaps. We use a specific snap because are on their way to making snaps from recovered plastic snaps.

How do you get the legs to fit without elastics?

It’s a jersey, like a t-shirt material, and the leg part is sewn into a ribbed material like the cuff of a shirt.

How does this wear over time? It takes a good amount of time before it wears out and so far we haven’t had any problem. And all elastic will wear out eventually.

What is nice is this means the diaper is almost 100% cotton and can be washed at a really hot wash without a problem.

Where can we buy Weekings Diapers? And can we ship around the world.

Yes, we ship around the world. We don’t have an online shop yet because I’m a small business. Sometimes a few things come onto Etsy shop. But mostly people order through direct message on Instagram.

What has been your biggest challenge as a small business?

Finding time, especially as a mom of three kids.

What is something that you find really easy or love about being in Cloth diaper business?

Estonians are pretty private people, but I have the best diaper ever because my kids were very small and this diaper doesn’t scratch or hurt them. This diaper is very soft and stretchy and it works great.

What is the best way to wash and maintain a Weekings Diapers.

I do a load of laundry once a day – and everything goes into that. If baby poops, I rinse it out under running water, and then toss it in the wash. I just wash it at 40 degrees with detergent and call it a day.

I do so much laundry, I can’t imagine doing a full load of just diapers. Some families in Estonia do a prewash and full cycle, and it’s too much. If you’re having problems, of course if you’re having problems do the extra things. But I’ve had no problem so far so keep it simple

What is something that you wish people knew about cloth diapering that you wish people talked about more.

It is super simple.
